About the Turkey Country Boundary Dataset

Download Turkey Country GIS map boundaries (Shapefile & GPKG). Includes 2026 population data. The dataset contains the national boundary polygon of Türkiye with 2026 population, in WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). It is designed for spatial analysis, territory mapping, and geodemographic routing.

Key Features & Sources

  • Coverage: Turkey (Country)
  • Data Formats: GeoPackage (.gpkg) or ESRI Shapefile (.shp), one format per variant
  • Geometry Source: The country polygon derived from OpenStreetMap (OSM), nesting exactly with the other levels of version v5.
  • Ready to Use: Compatible with QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo, and other major GIS platforms.
  • Demographic Integration: Includes 2026 population statistics sourced natively from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK).
  • Version: v5, updated October 2026; nests exactly with our neighbourhood layer (mahalle & köy).

Dataset name
Turkey Country Boundary
Description
Boundary polygons of the national boundary of Türkiye (Turkey), version v5 (October 2026), with 2026 population. Attributes include id, name, name:en, name:de, name:fr, name:it, official_name, admin_level, boundary, population, area_km2 and pop_dens. Every level nests exactly with the other Geolocet layers, including the neighbourhood layer (mahalle and köy). Typical uses are GIS mapping, geocoding, spatial joins, territory design and market and logistics analysis. The data is a paid download in GeoPackage or Shapefile format (EPSG:4326) under the Geolocet terms of service; other formats are available on request (contact@geolocet.com).

Frequently Asked Questions

What file formats are included in my download?
Each purchase contains one format: choose the GeoPackage (.gpkg) or the ESRI Shapefile (.shp) variant, and buy both variants if you need both formats. If you need the data in alternative formats (such as GeoJSON, Excel, or PostgreSQL import files), please contact us at contact@geolocet.com.
What coordinate reference system (projection) is used?
All boundary files are delivered in the standard WGS 84 (EPSG:4326) geographic coordinate system.
What software can I use to open these files?
The datasets are provided in standard geospatial formats and are fully compatible with all major GIS platforms, including QGIS, ArcGIS, MapInfo, as well as business intelligence tools like Tableau, Power BI, and spatial databases like PostGIS.
Where is the boundary geometry sourced from?
Our polygon boundaries are derived from OpenStreetMap (OSM) data and aligned so that every level nests exactly (version v5, October 2026), which makes them suitable for geospatial mapping and territorial analysis.
Does this dataset include demographic data?
Yes, this specific dataset integrates base demographics data (such as total population) natively sourced from official national statistical institutes. You can view the specific population vintage and source in the "Key Features" section above. For more granular demographic data (age, gender, households), please check out our Geodemographics Datasets linked in the related resources.
Can I upgrade to the full country hierarchy later?
Absolutely! If you realize you need seamless drill-downs to other administrative levels, you can explore our All-in-One Administrative Boundaries package for Turkey, which contains the complete hierarchy.
