This dataset maps Turkey neighbourhood boundaries at the lowest administrative level: 50,558 neighbourhood (mahalle) and village (köy) polygons covering all 81 provinces (il) and 973 districts (ilçe) of Türkiye (Turkey). Every unit is linked to its district and province, and every neighbourhood (mahalle) also to its municipality (belediye); villages (köy) lie outside municipalities. A free Yalova sample in GeoPackage and Shapefile format can be downloaded from this page.

- What is a mahalle and what is a köy?
- A mahalle (neighbourhood) is the smallest administrative unit inside a municipality (belediye), found in towns and cities. A köy (village) is a rural unit with its own legal personality outside municipal limits. Both form the lowest level below the district (ilçe) and the province (il).
- How many neighbourhoods and villages are there in Türkiye?
- This dataset contains 50,558 units in Türkiye: 31,838 neighbourhoods (mahalle), 18,039 villages (köy) and 681 unclassified units (no mahalle or köy type in this release), spread over 81 provinces and 973 districts.
- What is a belediye, and how do the administrative levels fit together?
- A belediye is a municipality, the elected local government of a city or town. The levels nest as province (il), then district (ilçe), then neighbourhood (mahalle) or village (köy), and each mahalle belongs to a belediye.
- Is every unit linked to its belediye?
- Yes for neighbourhoods: all 31,838 mahalle carry the ID and name of their municipality, one of 1,362 belediye in Türkiye. Villages (köy) lie outside municipalities, so their belediye fields are empty.
- How current is the dataset?
- Version v5, updated October 2026. Unit names, official codes and municipality links were checked against official registers for this release; the polygons are a Geolocet GIS compilation, not an official survey.
- Which formats and coordinate reference system are used?
- The GeoPackage holds one layer per level (for example admin_level_8_neighbourhoods), and the Shapefile version has one set per level with field names shortened to the 10-character Shapefile limit; both use WGS 84 (EPSG:4326). Other formats such as GeoJSON or CSV with WKT are available on request (contact@geolocet.com).
- Do the boundaries nest exactly with districts and provinces?
- Yes. All levels were snapped to shared edges in the delivered coordinates without moving any unit or changing any ID, so every neighbourhood lies inside one district (ilçe) and one province (il).
- Can I get the full national dataset, and how is it licensed?
- Yes. The full national dataset is supplied after an enquiry through the contact route at the top of this page, and its use is governed by our terms of service.
- Does it include population?
